On Saturday, December 20, 2014, two NYPD officers were killed. Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, were gunned down in their patrol car in Brooklyn, New York. Despite being profiled based on their profession, there were no riots. There were no protests. There was no looting. No one burned this bitch down.
While part of me is encouraged that calm prevailed, another part of me is dismayed that there was no backlash from these Officer’s death. How sad is it that people protested the supposed unjust deaths of miscreants like Michael Brown Jr. and Eric Garner, yet no one took to the streets on behalf of Officer Ramos and Officer Liu.
It is telling of a people that are willing to go to bat for those, like Michael Brown Jr. and Eric Garner, which have nothing positive to offer to their community or society as a whole. Meanwhile men and women like Officer Ramos and Officer Liu put their lives on the line each and every day trying to keep their community safe.
I have no doubt that there are some that feel the murder of Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu are justified. To those that feel this way, all I have to say is shame…on…you.
